Recommendations

  • Payments banks cannot receive export-of-services proceeds: RBI limits their cross-border business to personal remittances, and MTSS bars trade-related remittances. Do not give this account to foreign clients or platforms.
  • Open an account at an AD Category-I bank for client payments and file monthly EDFs there.
  • Ask your branch or relationship manager how it wants the monthly EDF for services. Most banks take it at the branch or through the relationship manager; business customers may be able to use a trade portal.
  • Ask whether it accepts PAN when you don't have an IEC.
  • Take the printed EDF, the covering letter, copies of the invoices and any FIRA / e-FIRC.
  • Your bank must publish its export policy on its website (Reg. 19). Look for "export" or "FEMA" policy documents there.
