Recommendations

  • Ask the branch, before filing, whether the monthly services EDF falls under the Rs 2,000 'export certificate/attestation' charge or the 0.125% (min Rs 1,500) bill-handling charge. Either would be expensive for small monthly volumes.
  • Quote the correct purpose code up front (Rs 1,000 to change it later).
  • If the fees are confirmed, consider keeping freelance receipts at a cheaper AD-I bank.
  • Ask your branch or relationship manager how it wants the monthly EDF for services. Most banks take it at the branch or through the relationship manager; business customers may be able to use a trade portal.
  • Ask whether it accepts PAN when you don't have an IEC.
  • Take the printed EDF, the covering letter, copies of the invoices and any FIRA / e-FIRC.
  • Your bank must publish its export policy on its website (Reg. 19). Look for "export" or "FEMA" policy documents there.
