Declaring the purpose code
The customer is told of the inward by SMS/email and submits purpose-wise documents plus a disposal instruction at the branch. The B Category branch credits the account and emails the credit advice. Individual savings-account credits for personal purposes (salary, family maintenance) up to USD 20,000 are processed directly by the Inward Remittance Cell, Mumbai, without a disposal instruction. Services-export receipts still need a declaration.

Recommendations

  • On getting UCO's SMS/email about a foreign credit, give the branch a declaration plus your invoice or fee statement or the client's email confirming the purpose. UCO's inward list accepts any one of these for services codes.
  • If your branch is not B Category, ask for the tagged B Category branch and submit the monthly EDF through your base branch.
  • File one consolidated EDF per month (Annex form of FEMA 23(R)/2026-RB) with an invoice-wise annexure, within 30 days after the invoice month; keep the bank's acknowledgement/EDF number.
  • For PA/platform payouts that arrive as domestic INR credits (Wise/Skydo/Razorpay/Payoneer/PayPal), keep the provider's FIRA/e-FIRC and ask the bank how it wants them mapped to the EDF; no bank in this group publishes a rule for this.
